Our management & program staff have particularly benefited from their ability to support the agency's integration of concrete cultural competence strategies in our day-to-day operations.

Competence Consultants provided us with the tools and confidence to begin to think critically about how we function in the world.

Executive Director Volunteer Toronto

I have been working with Gloria and Douglas since October, 2000. Their in-depth knowledge of cultural competence and human rights and their great teamwork results in consistently high-quality sessions. They tailor their material to the unique circumstances of the organization so that it is practical and meets the needs of the individual groups they are working with. Heres just a sampling of what our staff have had to say from recent sessions held with Gloria and Douglas:
"I liked the interaction with peers and examples of discrimination/privilege and relating it in a practical way to our work lives." "Presenters great; clearly presented, simple effective examples." "I liked everything: discussions, different views, examples from everyday life." "It made me take a closer look at ideals and perceptions I would normally brush aside."

Senior Manager, Organizational Development Toronto Central Community Care Access Centre

When I go back to work tomorrow I will be more conscious about how my values and life experience have an impact on others.

"Staff feedback on the foundation level training was overwhelmingly positive! Gloria and Douglas are sensitive and engaging facilitators. We are planning the second level of training and will work with them on our broader diversity strategy. We recommend them whole heartedly."

Women's Health in Women's Hands Community Health Centre takes pride in working from a prochoice, feminist, anti-oppression framework and ensures that this mandate is a part of all aspects of our entire organization. In order to ensure that this lofty mandate is instilled in all members of staff, management and the board of directors we have enlisted the services of Competence Consultants. Competence Consultants has been able to develop customized anti-oppression training for our organization and deliver it in a respectful, professional and highly interactive manner. They have left us with tools to work with and have facilitated enormous growth in the way that we provide service to our clients as well as understand and communicate with each within the organization. It has been a pleasure working with Doug Stewart and Gloria Murrant over the past year and I would recommend their training to any organization that is serious about anti-oppression work and organizational change.
